Math Important Book Blog
in an effort to keep this blog foldable-centered, i have created a blog to feature The Math Important Book project. Please feel free to check in on that from time to time as well!

altered book--The Math Important Book
I was lucky enough to score a discarded book in our school library at the beginning of the school year and it is serving as the base for my "altered" version of The Math Important Book. I have gotten very few pages done because I am trying to keep up with the journal version I am doing with the kids in my advanced classes this year. I plan to develop this one on my own time and maybe set a goal to finish it over the summer.
I love the book i found because it has a 'nerd' theme and have some amazing geek quotes at the top of each page which allows me to pick and choose the best place for each topic/concept.
{for instance}
{"I'm not anti-social, I'm just not user-friendly" Thought that was perfect for any irrational number, but especially pi--it seems to be one of the most popular irrational number even among the not-so-mathy folk}

estimating with decimals
This is something we added to our Math Important Book, but it's a modified foldable, so I thought it was appropriate to post here.
{inside--i'm sorry i have tried about 30 times to get this right-side-up and i can't get it}
creative block
i have been experiencing creator's block here lately. I spent my saturday night before returning to school trying to figure out a foldable for the introduction to integers. The problem with teaching 6th grade in Virginia (i'm sure i've mentioned this before) is that you are required to teach certain concepts which lends itself beautifully to other concepts but you rarely have the time to go into the depth that you would like. Let me clarify....we are required to introduce integers and by definition it makes sense to talk about the real number system, but we do not have the time nor do the kids have enough mathematical background knowledge to grasp the entire real number system and how the subsets relate to one another.
nonetheless, I think i created a foldable for us to use at the end of the week once we have defined integers, compared and ordered integers, defined 'opposite' and 'absolute value' and also introduced 'zero pairs.'
I will post pictures later this week once i have created my final draft.
